IT’S GOD’S CALL
Romans 2: Paul says to be careful when we judge others for when we do we are actually judging ourselves because we do the very same things we accuse others of doing. Verse 1: “You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge the other, you are condemning yourself.” This is excellent advice for all of us; our society would be better served if we listened to his advice on this matter. God’s judgment is based on a truth that we are incapable of fully understanding. I don’t know why we judge others as we do, but that is our nature.
Paul reminds them that God will judge and give each person what is due according to their deeds. Verse 6: “God will give person according to what he has done.” There will be trouble for anyone who does evil, and conversely there will be glory, honor, and peace for those (believers) who do good. God does not show favoritism.
Paul raises an interesting point when he discusses how people will be judged regardless of whether or not they are under the law. He claims that those who are not under the law, (perhaps they have never even heard of the law) are a law unto themselves. Everyone is born with a God consciousness and an instinctive feeling of right and wrong, and these people will be judged accordingly on the day when God will judge men’s secrets through Jesus Christ. Verse 11: For God does not show favoritism.”
Paul accuses the Jews of saying they live under the law and try to impose it upon others while they themselves do the very things that they say shouldn’t be done. They are circumcised and yet they break the law. They are circumcised outwardly, but not in the heart; Verse27: “The one who is not circumcised physically and yet obeys the law will condemn you who, even though have the written code and circumcision, are a lawbreaker.” Verse 28: “A man is not a Jew if he is only one outwardly…”
Many have questioned how people who have never heard the Gospel, who know nothing of Jesus will be saved, as I am sure there have been such circumstances. As Paul claims, people are born with the knowledge of something greater then themselves; born with a sense of order that is necessary to survive in a society. They develop a law unto themselves and they will be judged accordingly by God on the Day of Judgment. We, however, are most fortunate of all men because we have the Bible, the inspired Word of God. We have the road map, if you will, that directs us to Jesus. If you have not taken this road I urge you to ask Jesus into your heart, telling Him you have sinned (of course He already knows, but wants to hear you say it) and that you believe in what he died for on the cross. He will come and you will be His. I pray that you look to Him.
