RIGHTEOUSNESS AND THE LAW
Romans 3: The law referred to in this chapter is the 10 Commandments created by God for a very specific purpose. Verse 20: “Therefore none will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin.” Obviously the law was created to show mankind the impossible task of trying to find favor with God by adhering to it. The Bible states that if you break one commandment then you are guilty of all. If one cannot live up to the Commandments, how then does one find favor with God and get into Heaven. Is it possible to be righteous and live a righteous life? Is it possible to be good enough to be noticed by God and earn our way into Heaven? Romans 3:10, 11 states that “there is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands, no one who seeks after God…..” It appears that getting into Heaven is a daunting task. How does one find favor with God and gain entrance to Heaven?
Romans 3:21-24 state the following; “But now a righteousness from God, apart from the law, has been made known, to which the law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness comes from God through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” God has made the path to Him straight and narrow, but yet wide enough for all who will take that step of faith.
A horrible and unjustified act of crucifixion is conquered by the Father in His mercy for those He loves. Let’s look at John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” My friends, we truly have a wonderful God; we need not be righteous, we need not fear the things we do or have done, we need only to believe in Him. AMEN!
P S We have two commandments given by Jesus; love Him and love your neighbor, but remember GRACE (unmerited favor) is given to us as a gift that if we accept in Jesus.
