Sermon On the Net

A DUTY TO JUDGE

There is s a time when we must make a judgment according to Paul in 1st Corinthians 5.

When we have a situation in the church regarding the behavior of an individual that is sinful in nature the church at large is obligated to confront it and take remedial action. Even to the point of ostracizing the guilty one if they don’t repent and change their ways. Paul emphasizes the necessity of such action to prevent the acceptance of immoral behavior as the norm so as not to infect others.

We are not, however, to pass judgment on unbelievers. If we did we would be at odds with the world. That area is the responsibility of God who will judge the world at the appointed time.

I am so grateful to the Lord for what He has done for me. He has made it so easy to accept the truth, His truth; the way of salvation. Please take a moment and reflect on what I just wrote and make it personal. He died for you and He gave His life to pay for your sins. He paid your debt so that you would be free and all you have to do is to believe in and accept the free gift of salvation from the One who created you. The acceptance of this truth releases you from the burden of the world. Oh what joy, inexpressible.

This is your day, believe, accept and rejoice until that great day of the Lord when we will be with Him for eternity.

LEAVE IT TO THE JUDGE

In Acts 4 Paul tells the Corinthians not to judge others: “It is the Lord who judges me therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait until the Lord comes.”

What wonderful advice, if only each of us would follow Paul’s instruction. Think about it for a moment, who are we that we should pass judgment on another? The Bible tells us to remove the log in our own eye before we attempt to tell others that they are wrong or what they are doing is not right. This is especially true in the Christian world. We definitely should not be critical of other Christians; we do not know what motivates others. We are all God’s servants and as such should leave judgment to the Lord, as Paul tells us. There is a time for judgment and the Bible is specific on how we handle it.

We should live our lives as God wills for us. We should love Him and love others as He wills us to do exactly that. Remember when we do not judge it pleases God and this should be our priority in life. As my father used to say, “If you can’t say something good about a person, then don’t say anything.” It’s interesting that I should think of my father in that way but now that I am he certainly was a person who always tried to refrain from saying anything negative about someone. I need to follow that advice.

‘Lord, teach me to refrain from saying negative things about other people, help me develop the philosophy of my father; if it is good, okay, if it is negative forget about it.’

Sermon On the Net

I AM …????

In the 3rd chapter of Corinthians Paul chastises them because of the divisions created by one saying he is of Paul and another of Apollos. Today we have similar divisions with people saying: ‘I am a Catholic’, I am a Protestant, I am a Mormon, I am Hindu, I am a Christian, etc.,etc.,etc.

To be a Christian, according to the Bible, (the word of God I might add), one must have a personal relationship with Jesus. The term ‘Christian’ (Christ like) was created during the time of Jesus Christ for those following Him. Today we very loosely apply the term to almost all religions.

I believe, based on Biblical principles, that to be a valid Biblical Christian, one must be an unrestricted follower of Jesus without any, and I mean without any intermediaries. If you take a moment and reflect on this thought and consider the fact that on Judgment Day when you face God, who will be your intermediary? Will it be your ‘religion’ or will it be Jesus? Will He see the doctrine of your religion or will He see the perfection in you made possible by your acceptance of Jesus as your Savior?

It is your call and yours alone.
