GOD WITH US
Matthew 1: The words of the Lord are so precious and mean so much that I love to write about the Gospels where we find so much of what He has said first hand. The first chapter speaks of the 14 generations preceding the birth of Jesus, whereas Luke speaks to all the generations.
Mary, the mother of Jesus, was pledged to be married to Joseph. An engagement period in those days was very different than modern times. It was binding and the only way to end it was to divorce. When Mary was found to be pregnant with Jesus Joseph was going to divorce her quietly so as not to disgrace her. However, one night in a dream, an angel of the Lord appeared to him and said: “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” See Psalm 130:8 and Isaiah 7:14.
When Joseph woke up he did exactly as he remembered in his dream and took Mary home as his wife, although he had no union with her until after Jesus was born.
What a blessing it must have been for Mary and Joseph to have been chosen to be the parents of Jesus, although I don’t believe they realized the significance of it all. It is very obvious though, that they were very God fearing and faithful people. They are wonderful examples for us to follow. Trusting in the Lord is what it’s all about; this is His desire for us. We will be blessed beyond our dreams if we agree to be faithful and the first place to begin is turning our lives over to Him. If you don’t know the Lord as your personal Savior, ask Him to come into your heart. Tell Him you want to repent of your past sins and ask for His forgiveness which He has promised to all those who believe. I would then advise you to search the Scriptures for your self to discover the wonderful things He has for His children.
