Sermon On the Net

THE RESURRECTION

Matthew 28: Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to the tomb where Jesus was placed and as they got there a violent earthquake occurred and shook the earth causing the stone to roll away from the tomb entrance. The guards were so frightened they fainted. An angel of the Lord appeared and told them in verse 6: “He is not here; he has risen, just as he said.” So they left and on the way they met Jesus who greeted them and told them to go and tell the disciples that He has risen as He said He would.

While the women were on their way the guards went and reported what had happened. The chief priests told them to agree to a lie stating that his Disciples came during the night and took His body.

Then the 11 Disciples went to the place where Jesus was going, met Him and worshipped Him. Jesus told them that all power and authority had been given to Him and that he was appointing them to preach to the world and baptize the converts “in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” And tell them to obey “Everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” See verses 19-20. He then promised them that He would be with them until the end of the age.

It is interesting to note that some doubted the reality of the situation when they met Jesus.   This chapter culminates with the great commission of evangelism. One point I would like to emphasize here is that baptism was and is merely symbolic of accepting Jesus as Savior. Anyone accepting Jesus as Savior without being baptized need not be disturbed because Jesus tells us throughout the Gospels that we are to accept Him as Savior because we are sinners and therefore separated from Him from birth, without any further requirements. Remember John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

If you have not accepted Jesus as Savior now would be a good time. Just pray a simple prayer of asking for forgiveness and accept Him as your personal Savior. You will make Him and all the angels in Heaven rejoice; and me too.
